Syphil : Black Sun Lilies (2008)

Syphil is a experimental/industrial project from Serbia. Started in 2004. as a one man 'project'. Earliest incarnation was Wrench Quintet. Inspired by old hard percussive industrial, very much by early Swans (Cop, Filth, Young God), some SPK, some Coil, some SCH (During Wartime and White Music), and also power electronics acts like Whitehouse and Deathpile, and some ambient stuff, but more in vein of Nurse With Wound. Soon changing the name into Syphil, orienting on more experimental, not so in-your-face, hard hitting stuff. "Syphil = a flower of flesh, spawn of love & death's embrace, a nihil wound, A Story Of The Eye". First Syphil CDr entitled "Collected Works" was out in 2005. on now defunct YOUSNS Rec. Consisted of mainly instrumental experimental and ambient miniatures, inspired by obscure soundtracks and cheap porn. In the meantime, a lot other projects were done, trying to explore other fields (cyber gore grind - N.U.R.S.E., industrial funk eccentricity - Kateter Rok, noise core/grind - SS Jihad 666 ). In 2008. after a total hiatus in creativity and overcoming the crisis idea came to resurect some old stuff, regrouping, rewriting. With addition of female vocalist and guitarist, old Wrench Quintet work was refined and renewed and rearranged gaining a new dimension out of all the senseless noise. Demo CDr titled 'Black Sun Lilies' is finished, 8 songs of dark, noisy, cold ,desperate dirges for your late night listening pleasure. Empathy is the word, always has been.

Syphil - Black Sun Lilies (2008)

review by KKTZ (from )

There has been a number of interesting experimental / electro / noise,
etc. projects appearing in the region lately, and we might as well call it a
'scene', but this is an album / demo that has really surprised me in a
positive way! And again, taking place in Sombor, a town very musically productive in
underground terms. SYPHIL is building their sound on the early THE
SWANS legacy, combined with modern power electronics solutions. In
which they are truly successful and ..own. Excellent expressive
male and utterly sung female vocals, a very efficient and mature
overlap between atmosphere and aggression, both from the digital and
the analog data, heavy industrial rhythms and perplexed, still narcotic
layers of noise and melody.

In all mentioned above, this album, despite being a 'first-born',
sounds very profound and keeps the tension level high thoroughly, there
is a sort of epic simplicity in that chaos, a head and a tail. In my
opinion, and in wider range, this band is exquisite in their realm, and
I hope that others would recognize it too.

Syphil : Black Lilies Demo
